Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advisory Committee (DHHAC)
The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advisory Committee (DHHAC) provides advice to the DOR on the means to increase competitive employment, enlarge economic opportunities, enhance independence and self-sufficiency, and on methods for improving services for persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deaf/blind. The DHHAC members represent the wide and diverse spectrum of individuals who have hearing losses served by the Department. DHHAC Members are either deaf or hard of hearing and/or have experience in providing services to individuals with hearing loss. The committee develops, in conjunction with stakeholders, an annual work plan to identify and address areas for improvement in services provided by the DOR to persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind.
All meetings are held in accordance with all applicable open meeting acts, namely the Bagley Keene Act 11120-111321 . Agenda items to be transacted or discussed must be placed on the agenda at a minimum of ten days prior to any regular meeting.
Composition of DHHAC
The DHHAC consists of no more than thirteen members who represent the wide and diverse interests of deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deaf/blind consumer constituencies. The majority of the members shall be deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind. Members of the committee who are not deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, or deafblind shall have experience in services to these consumer constituencies. The DHHAC meets at least annually to discuss service delivery issues impacting consumers who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deaf-blind.

- Individuals who are deafblind
- Expert in the broad area of assistive technology
- Professional preparation and Continuing Education for DOR RCD’s
- Experienced RCDs and other direct service providers
